Amethyst Dragon

Responsible for All Aspects except the dragon model
Software / Maya, Photoshop, Nuke
Renderer / Arnold
This project is an exploration of integrating a translucent object. I collected some stones for the references and observed how they would look under lights. The final one I chose to recreate the purple amethyst stone.

Here is the clean plate and the HDRI I shot for this project. There is an issue is that the day of shooting is cloudy, so the gray ball plate does not match the clean plate very well. So I used the gray ball plate as the reference, but did some light changes in my final comp. Since I want to make my scene more like a sunny day, I also did a lot of color correction on the clean plate.

Shading & Texturing
I spent a lot of time working on the shading part. The UV of the Stanford Model is kind of a mess, so I decided to make the shader procedurally.

Here are the render layers I use for compositing.
